Use cases
Send cron job notifications to Slack
If your team lives in Slack, that is where you want to hear about a broken job. Cronhost can post an alert to a Slack channel whenever a scheduled job fails, using an incoming webhook.
The problem
You run scheduled jobs, but the only way to know they are healthy is to open a dashboard or dig through logs. You would rather have the failures come to you, in the channel your team already watches.
How to set it up
- 1
Create an incoming webhook in Slack
In Slack, create an app (or use an existing one), enable Incoming Webhooks, add a webhook to the channel you want alerts in, and copy the webhook URL. Cronhost's Add Channel dialog walks through this if you have not done it before.
- 2
Add the webhook as a Slack channel in Cronhost
Under Notifications, add a Slack channel and paste the webhook URL. Verify it, Cronhost sends a test message so you can confirm it lands in the right place before you rely on it.
- 3
Attach it to your schedules
On any schedule, set it to notify on failure and attach the Slack channel. One channel can cover every schedule you care about, so a single webhook is enough for your whole account.
Example cadence: Run a cron job every 15 minutes
Put cron failures in your Slack channel
Connect a Slack webhook once and get alerted where your team already works.
