A Vercel Cron alternative
Vercel Cron and Cronhost both run jobs on a schedule, but they solve slightly different problems. Vercel Cron triggers a route in your Vercel app. Cronhost is a standalone scheduler that fires an HTTP request at any endpoint you own, on any host, and records what happened. If you already deploy on Vercel and just need to hit one of your own routes, Vercel Cron is the obvious pick. If you want retries, failure alerts, and a run history that lives outside your app, that is where Cronhost fits.

|---|---|---|
| Targets any HTTP endpoint (any host) Vercel Cron invokes a path in your own Vercel deployment; Cronhost calls any URL. | Yes | No |
| Runs without deploying an app Cronhost needs only a URL. Vercel Cron requires a Vercel project and a deployed function. | Yes | No |

| Failure and recovery notifications Cronhost sends an alert when a job fails after its retries, and again when it recovers. | Email, Slack, Discord, Telegram | No |
| Execution history with status codes and responses | Yes | Via your own logging |
| Configurable request (method, headers, body) | Yes | In your function code |
| Timezone-aware schedules Vercel Cron expressions are evaluated in UTC; Cronhost lets you pick the timezone per schedule. | Yes | UTC |
| Manual trigger from a dashboard or API | Yes | No |
| Bundled with your app hosting If you are already on Vercel, cron is built in with nothing extra to run. | No | Yes |
Where Cronhost is stronger
- Schedules any endpoint on any host, not just a route inside one app.
- Automatic retries with exponential backoff on transient failures.
- Failure and recovery alerts to email, Slack, Discord, or Telegram.
- A run history you can read without wiring up your own logging.
- Per-schedule timezone instead of UTC only.
Where Vercel Cron is stronger
- Zero extra services if your app already runs on Vercel.
- Cron config lives next to your code in vercel.json.
- No outbound HTTP hop, it invokes your function directly.
